Cost Per Click (CPC) aka Pay Per Click (PPC) directs traffic to your website in exchange with paying a publisher when an ad is clicked on their website. Common big search engines use this model such as Google Adwords and Microsoft Bing Ads where users bid on keywords relevant to their targeted market and pay a fixed price when traffic gets redirected.
Smaller website can also offer PPC ads and will display them when the content matches the description of the ad.
